A text book from the future

Laitz, Steven G. Bartlette, Christopher. Graduate Review of Tonal Theory: A Recasting of Common-Practice Harmony, Form, and Counterpoint. New York: Oxford University Press, 2010 (Picture taken from Amazon.com).

Yes, it did state 'Copyright 2010 by Oxford University Press, Inc.' at the first page.  This book is one of the latest harmony text book on the market.  It will be good for extra analytic exercises.  However, it does require some fundamental understanding of harmony, counterpoint and form.

It will be ideal for self-study if one already has the foundation.  Otherwise, an assistance will be very helpful for the one (assuming a first year at university) who wants to develop comprehensive analysis on the discussion topics.  Since it employs some level of Schenkerian theory straight from the opening chapter of melodies and scales, people who have never been introduced to this style might not appreciated its full merit.

As for me, I might use it in combination with Harmony & Voice Leading and A Concentrated Course in Traditional Harmony.  The number of pieces and practice are the part I enjoyed the most.
