Watching list over the semester break

There are a few legendry pianists always hold a soft spot in my heart.  Namely Claudio Arrau, Arturo Benedetti Michelangeli, Sviatoslav Richter, Artur Rubinstein.  The list could go on for a big longer but better just stop here.  I have dreamt of attending their concert live.  If there ever is going to be an after-world, the possibilities that I might get to hear their playing makes the idea become rather pleasant.

As the semester approaching to its end, the atmosphere is lightened for both the office and the school.  I have spotted some DVDs played by the above pianists to watch over the semester break.  Three of them are from the Medici Arts' Classic Archive series:

  • Richter plays Mozart /Chopin/Rachmaninov-Richter was not too happy to find out the concert was going to be record and dislike the idea of having camera and lights on him.  The concept is taken and understood but I just wish there could be more of his DVDs.
  • Artur Rubinstein - The Legendary Moscow Recital (1964)-this concert is 'the concert' that people probably will talk about for hundreds of years to come.
  • Tatiana Nikolayeva Plays Shostakovich-The amazing pianist to whom Shostakovich dedicated his Preludes and fugues.
The other two of the list are:
  • Aideo Artists International's Two Titans of the Keyboard-this one has two of my favorite Pianists.
  • Michelangeli plays Beethoven Schubert Brahms-The Beethoven sonata I have learnt at high school and love it by heart.  Michelangeli played it with such a clarity and consistency which is simply amazing.
