Facilitating skills

Have been looking for facilitating resources after the workshops.  Spotted 2 books yesterday, although not ideal, it did have a noteworthy list of facilitating skills.

Taken from the book 'Facilitating with Ease' by Ingrid Bens (2005) Jossey-Bass: Danvers, this list give a good summery for what skills one need while facilitating discussion, and from them here are the wishing list of improvement:
  • active listening, questioning, summarising, managing time, encouraging participation, action planing.
  • achieving consensus and getting true closure
  • skilled at checking assumptions and challenging ideas
  • skilled at managing conflict and making immediate intervention
  • able to deal with resistance and personal attacks
  • making design changes on the spot
  • consolidating ideas from a mass of information into coherent summaries

The list helped to identify the skills and divided them into areas that makes the problems become more visible.
