Queensland Ballet 2010 Gala 6-8 August

Programme for Queensland Ballet 50th Anniversary International Gala 2010

Only a three days season the International Gala is. This time the guest artists come from Dresden SemperOper Ballett,  the Paris Opera Ballet, Hong Kong and National Ballet of China.

I went to the opening night last night (6th Aug) with a young friend who used to be a dancer till she was injured. We enjoyed the whole programme. The guest dancer Andrea Parkyn is actually born in Queensland, however I didn't realise that till this afternoon when I get to read the programme a bit closer. Last night we were both amazed by her grace, yet with such a powerful expression.

The male guest dancers are all very impressive, nonetheless, Florimond Lorieux from The Paris Opera Ballet has won my heart. The exotic programme from La Bayadère with the dazzsling costume by L'Atelier de Denise Fougerolles are so vibrant and simply breathtaking.

The first piece in the second half used John Adams's Fearful Symmetries, the choreography is clever and interesting.  A piece that shows a restless, anxious, isolated and desirous atmosphere, however, reaching out and calling out to express-a piece to remember.
