Taken from the book 'Facilitating with Ease' by Ingrid Bens (2005) Jossey-Bass: Danvers, this list give a good summery for what skills one need while facilitating discussion, and from them here are the wishing list of improvement:
- active listening, questioning, summarising, managing time, encouraging participation, action planing.
- achieving consensus and getting true closure
- skilled at checking assumptions and challenging ideas
- skilled at managing conflict and making immediate intervention
- able to deal with resistance and personal attacks
- making design changes on the spot
- consolidating ideas from a mass of information into coherent summaries
The list helped to identify the skills and divided them into areas that makes the problems become more visible.
